lyrics

I found myself wandering
Around the old neighbourhood
On a hot sunny day in the autumn
It was strange but it felt good
The tree-lined road was golden
And my sense impressions were strong
The houses looked the same
But the people were gone

On Strathearn lawn
Kissed by a boy
His hair was blond
I was overjoyed

When the wind lifted the leaves in the air
I felt the spirit everywhere

I passed the baseball diamond
The gardens and the pool
The train tracks and the churchyard
The hockey rink and school
My memories were overflowing
And my heart was like a bowl
But there was no one here that I knew, not a soul

In Strathearn park
Kissed by a girl
Her hair was dark
She was out of this world

When the wind scattered the leaves on the ground
I felt the spirit all around

Finally I reached the house
Where I was born and raised
I’d been standing there a long time
When I saw a familiar face
It was ol’ Carolina
She said: “Sorry about your mom.”
And when I wept she took me in her arms

It isn’t these places
That you call home
They’re only the traces
Of people you’ve known

When the wind blew the dead leaves on the grass
I felt the spirit going past

about

Daniel Isaiah Montreal, Québec

With every album I try to give myself some new challenge. For Only One Left, I learned how to produce my own recordings at home. For my upcoming LP I learned to play piano, and wrote all of the songs on that instrument. I work hard on the lyrics. I try to boil my ideas down into plain and simple language. The simpler the better. ... more
