Heart Attack

I said that I don’t mind
If you want to look inside
She laid her cards out, she read tarot
It showed a bow & arrow
I looked into the sky
I saw the sun and moon collide
My heart was beating like a drum
I expected the worst
But it didn’t come
Oh that golden hymn
Kept me up into the morning
I felt my way in
From the darkest night, I stepped into the light
Oh that golden hymn
We let it go; but I know
It’s coming back again
The world inside of a cup
She threw me in and said good luck
A thousand days passed between us
Now I walk with Venus
Into the coral sea
All wrapped up in golden strings
She only smiled when I asked her
“Why would you want to call Anyone master?”
Down the road in time
Between the weeping willows
I’ll rope the diamond mine
And cut into the night, to see you in the light
Oh that golden hymn
I had to know, I couldn’t let go
Or force it on your side
Oh that golden hymn
Kept me up past the dawning
I felt my way in
From the darkest night to see you in the light
Oh that golden hymn
We let it go; but I know
It’s coming back again

Sail

Hey, it’s not ready
Put it down a while
Come on keep steady
Walk another mile
I was just a child
Going down the aisle
And she was changing styles
In her sleep
Toss and turn, the engine burns
But I can feel the fade
Still I hear that robin sing
Cuz I dream in time to memory
Crows all around me
Gather at my door
The desert beside me
Dreaming of the shore
But I can feel you more
Than I did before
But we were so unsure
Of the spring
Toss and turn, the engine it burns
But I can feel the fade
Still I hear that robin sing
Cuz I dream in time to memory
My father is in the ground
On the edge of town
And the train is coming round the bend
Toss and turn, the engine burns
But I can feel the fade
Spring will return on robins’ wings
And I dream in time to memory

I Had to Fight
03:07
|
|
||
I was born into the greed
I learned to cope
With the cut-throats
Who turned their backs on me
But when you lied
It all caved in
How could I know that you roll
Just like them
I had to fight
My way out
The sun explodes
Against the dawn
I’m wide awake, but I’m blinded
Like I’ve come into gone
(Simulacrum Simulacrum shock!)

Tug of War
03:41
|
|
||
I tipped my hat to the Absolute
And dusted off my dusty suit
I wrestled an angel in the sand
I dreamed I saw the promised land
And that I stepped into it through an open door
Tug of War
I let God in and I kicked him out
Yes I had faith enough to doubt
Thy kingdom come, thy kingdom go
Broken armies all in a row
I close my eyes to see Him but I don’t see anything
I hear the war
I got tripped up in the tug of war
Between the ocean line and the shore
Didn’t wanna fight, but here I am
Held on a little too tight
Pulled me into the blinding light
Now I’ll never find my way back home
I came to tell the boys and girls
Who cut their teeth on the invisible world
Remember what you forget
Don't stare too long at the sun or death
You know there’s no returning through that open door
Tug of war

Information Blues
05:22
|
|
||
Rumours in my backyard
Banners in the eastern skies
The front line is dying, only to surrender
And I’ve got the information blues
Got a lot to lose
There are so many miles between us now
But I know what you do
Cuz everyone is in advertisement baby
And I’ve got the information blues
I can see that you’ve got ‘em too
Language talks the talk
Bodies line the blocks
To the defunct railway station standing vacant in the sun
While the wedding bells are rung
My thoughts are raw and incomplete
The dawn is pale blue
If only I could get to sleep, darling
But I’ve got the information blues
And I’m so tired too
The foxy jocks will lead us
To the billion dollar bash
They fill you with their liquor
And then send you out the back
With nowhere to crash
Terry, I don’t wanna be
Reminded of my mind
Just a few days shy of thirty three
And I’ve got the information blues
Don’t say I haven’t paid my dues
The years are a broken record
I am the needle on the groove
So don’t ya shoot the messenger
I only trace the lines
I didn’t write the tune

Two Brothers
03:17

It’s been so long my brother
I miss you on a day like this
It’s early yet, but the sun is set
And I’m watching the snowfall from my bed
Oh, we are far from home
But I’m still trying to reach it
Do you ever think of Ohio
That other house that you had?
Your room over there, was it like the one we shared
Did you call our mother’s friend your dad?
Oh, we are far from home
But I’m still trying to reach it
Brother, I had worry
I guess that you had it worse
The world split in two, one for me and one for you
What’s done is done but not forgiven
Oh, we are far from home
But I’m still trying to reach you
I hear that you’re living in your garden
Yes, I hear that you’re doing better
The folks say that you’re good, and I’ll take them by their word
Until I get your next letter

Power is found wanting
Underneath the strain
Of this morning
You tied me to a string
With half of everything
We were owning
Sorrow melts the ice that’s covering your heart
Sorrow breaks the spell of indignation
You took me through the hall of saints
Who never left a trace
Where they wandered
It ended at the stake
But I never could relate
To any martyr
Sorrow melts the ice that’s covering your heart
Sorrow breaks the spell of indignation
When the comfort starts to itch
You know that it’s time to ditch
This apartment
Still I seek you in the subway script
I see you in my cryptic trips
Through the city at night
Sorrow melts the ice wrapped tight to your heart
Sorrow breaks the spell of indignation

Daniel Isaiah Montreal, Québec
With every album I try to give myself some new challenge. For Only One Left, I learned how to produce my own recordings at home. For my upcoming LP I learned to play piano, and wrote all of the songs on that instrument. I work hard on the lyrics. I try to boil my ideas down into plain and simple language. The simpler the better. ... more
